I have just heard from Allan Udy of the Historical Aviation Film Unit that the video he shot at Ardmore on the P39 has had over 630,000 views. This is a huge number and shows peoples fascination with this rare aircraft.
For those of you that missed it or need a refresh the link is below.
My father worked for Aero Products in Vandalia OH and was sent to New Guinea in Feb 1942 to help with the P-39s props as a Factory rep. He and two others were there to help and report to Aero Products (GM) about the prop systems. So I have always been interested in the P-39. They did not work well at high altitude, so they got a bad name in the Pacific, but the US started sending them to Russia and they loved them! My nephew-in-law is from Russia and his Grandfather flew the planes in WWII (Some with the AeroProps), so lots of history there (of which I don’t know enough). Anyway, we are glad to see them get the attention they deserve! I think the layout is well thought out and the plane is good looking.
